![]() Through NYMIP’s Pathways to Dignity program we connect the community to tangible resources, such as English as a second language classes (ESL). We understand the value of language as part of individuals’ pathways to living in the US. Your financial gift of support enables NYMIP staff to provide and teach free weekly ESL classes. This program is in partnership with the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs (MOIA) “These ESL classes help those who need assistance learning conversational English. Participants receive a Certificate of completion from the MOIA. ![]() On July 2020 USCIS released a Final Rule increasing fees to many immigration and naturalization benefits. The Rule also makes changes to adjudication policies and drastically restrict requirements for fee waivers. USCIS states that the increases are needed because “unlike most government agencies, USCIS is fee funded… fees fund nearly 97% of USCIS budget” however, the fee increases and changes to fee waivers will pose a hardship to low income earning immigrants and their families. On September 29, 2020, a district court stayed the August 2020 Final Rule allowing for USCIS fee increases and updates to many of its forms. Forcing USCIS to halt planned October 2020 fee increases. It is not possible to know how long the fee rule will be enjoined and USCIS has 60 day to appeal however, USCIS has continued to accept original applications with current fees.
