The NymIP effort is managed by the NymIP Research Group.
Research Group Chair: Scott Bradner, Harvard University
Secretary and System Administrator: John Bashinski
The next generation of pseudonymity and anonymity services for the Internet will be designed using an open, public process. We call this process the "Controlled Nymity IP effort", or simply the "NymIP effort", or "NymIP".
In brief, the goal of NymIP is to create a set of standardized protocols for pseudonymity and anonymity at the IP layer, and a community of operators using those protocols. NymIP goals are set out in greater detail in another document. Note that that document is a draft written by some of the founders of the group, and has not been formally adopted.
The first action in the NymIP effort has been the creation of an independent research group, the NymIP-RG, to explore the problem space and create a common vocabulary. As the only organization initially associated with the NymIP effort, the NymIP-RG will, in addition to its research purpose, be responsible for the management of NymIP as a whole, until such time as it passes overall management to some other organization.
The NymIP-RG consists initially of researchers invited by its founding organization, Zero-Knowledge Systems. However, the group sets its own rules and procedures, and manages its own membership. The NymIP-RG will probably choose to apply for an IRTF (Internet Research Task Force) charter, but this decision has not yet been made. The RG operating framework permits technical participation by all interested parties, and provides for the addition of significant contributors as new members of the RG's governing core.
