THE JOURNEY

Manuel is a gentleman experiencing housing insecurity in the Bronx. In his home country of Venezuela, he worked in law enforcement. Manuel and his family became a target of the gangs. In fact, his teenage brother was killed by the gangs. Fearing for his life and the safety of his family, he migrated north.

For several months, Manuel lived in a tent city in Mexico near the border. Today, he is very grateful to be living in a shelter. He longs for the day he can return to his home country and be rejoining his family and friends.

The New York Mennonite Immigration Program staff sat with Manuel and heard his story. We did a need and legal assessment of his case and referred him to the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs.

Pray for Manuel as he secures an attorney to handle his case. Pray that he will be able to be reunited with his family.

Manuel es un señor que sufre inseguridad en la vivienda en el Bronx. En Venezuela, su país de origen, trabajaba en las fuerzas del orden. Manuel y su familia se convirtieron en objetivo de las bandas. De hecho, su hermano adolescente fue asesinado por las bandas. Temiendo por su vida y por la seguridad de su familia, emigró al norte.

Durante varios meses, Manuel vivió en una ciudad de tiendas de campaña en México, cerca de la frontera. Hoy está muy agradecido por vivir en un refugio. Anhela el día en que pueda regresar a su país y reunirse con su familia y amigos.

El personal del Programa Menonita de Inmigración de Nueva York se sentó con Manuel y escuchó su historia. Hicimos una evaluación legal y de necesidades de su caso y lo remitimos a la Oficina del Alcalde para Asuntos de Inmigrantes.

Oremos por Manuel mientras consigue un abogado que se encargue de su caso. Oremos para que pueda reunirse con su familia.
